While these products have been widely used (with some working with it for over 27 years) they typically lack support for modern search syntaxes, AI-driven search, and neural network OCR capabilities. For most deployments of AppEnhancer, users may not have access to features like Large Language Models (LLMs) or the ability to auto-convert handwriting and cursive to text. This results in limited search functionality, forcing users to know specific data, fields, or syntax like asterisks for wildcard searches. Grooper is changing this by introducing a new AI search feature that enhances the capabilities of your AppEnhancer system and other ECM platforms like Laserfiche, Box, and SharePoint. ### Enhance Your Search Abilities in AppEnhancer ![opentext appenhancer](https://blog.bisok.com/hs-fs/hubfs/blog-images/opentext-appenhancer.jpg?width=317&height=228&name=opentext-appenhancer.jpg)Grooper, acting as a unified search platform, can connect to multiple systems simultaneously, including AppEnhancer, email systems, and file shares. This new AI search feature allows users to: - **Search everything at once:** A single search window can search all metadata fields and the full text on documents in a broad, simple search. - **Use natural language:** Instead of needing to know complex syntax, users can ask questions using natural language. For example, asking the AI helper to "Find all invoices where West Coast states and the United States are referenced" automatically generates the search syntax for California, Oregon, and Washington documents. - **Execute sophisticated queries easily:** You can ask questions like, "Find all the documents for these four zip codes where the total dollar amount is over $100,000," and the system will build the complex syntax automatically. This type of query would be difficult to build in traditional AppEnhancer. ### Overcome OCR Limitations Traditional OCR engines embedded in older products are typically limited to very clean print and clear documents. They often fail to capture handwriting, cursive, or text on dirty images or inverted text. Grooper's new AI OCR capabilities overcome these limitations: - **Handwritten and Microfilm Data:** Grooper's OCR can find handwritten information, including a handwritten number or a handwritten check number on a document, which is impossible with traditional AppEnhancer full-text OCR. - **Ugly Documents:** Grooper is designed to get text off of "ugly documents," regardless of warping or if the source is an iPhone. - **Inverted Text:** It can convert and search for inverted text (white print on a black background), which is a challenge for traditional OCR. - **Clean Text is Key:** Good AI relies on clean text, and Grooper has focused on building a "better mousetrap" for efficiently extracting text from various document types.   ### Generative AI and Sophisticated Document Analysis in AppEnhancer Once you have a list of search results, Grooper enables you to leverage generative AI to create new documents or reports from the existing information. - **Custom Reports:** You can generate a new HTML, text, JSON, or XML document. For example, you can generate an HTML report for a set of invoices, sectioned by PO number and vendor name, with an AI-expert analysis of any potential concerns about payment. - **Automated Issue Summary:** The system can analyze the text, provide a summary of any issues, and can even connect to external systems of record, like an AP database or compliance website, to make informed decisions. - **Complex Searches:** Grooper allows for highly sophisticated searches that are impossible in ApplicationEnhancer, such as finding all documents referencing a Major League Baseball team's mascot, which resulted in 177 records.   ### Is AI Safe to Deploy and Use in AppEnhancer? The Grooper AI Search component uses Azure AI Search, creating a search index within the Azure cloud. - **Cloud Deployment:** This technology is available in all Azure instances, including the FedRAMP secure GovCloud edition. - **Data Security:** The data put into the Azure cloud is not your original documents or even text data, but a vector index. Vector indexing converts words into numbers, making the indexed data meaningless and very difficult to use, even if accessed. - **AI Accelerator:** Grooper acts as an AI accelerator, enabling organizations to quickly leverage neural networks and LLMs to create a product with a significant business impact. This new technology is drastically cutting down project deployment times, turning projects that used to take months into a matter of days. In the near future, this technology will also be used for document classification and separation, which is often a more difficult task than simple classification.
